Prof. Michael de Jesus, a founding Sr. Fellow of the Society of Bayan Fellows, is currently the Director of Bayan’s Strategy Management Office. In this capacity, Prof. de Jesus designs and oversees:
major intervention offerings for development organizations and social enterprise ecosystem actors through Bayan Innovation Group;
social entrepreneurship education interventions for grassroots and nascent entrepreneurs through Bayan Academy;
the development of initiatives to finance social enterprise ecosystems through traditional funding and impact investing through Bayan EDGE and;
the handholding and upscaling of grassroots social enterprises through Bayan SEARCH.
Prof. de Jesus is also concurrently the Chief Knowledge Architect of Bayan Knowledge Institute—a knowledge facility that designs and directs practitioner-oriented courses in social entrepreneurship, development management and 21st century business administration for graduate schools and executive programs that are run with the Institute’s conduit learning partners. Some of the Institute’s conduit learning partners include Ateneo Graduate School of Business, MLQA, Development Academy of the Philippines, University of Makati and Philippine Women’s University, etc.
In the past, Prof. de Jesus has designed initiatives for some of the country’s development giants including Prof. Ed Morato, Jr. of the Asian Institute of Management and former Chairman and President of Bayan, and Ms. Gina Lopez of ABSCBN Foundation. For the former, Prof. de Jesus was instrumental in the development and the roll-out of the country’s entrepreneurship program for K-12 students when in it was first introduced, as well as designing and providing a template for teaching entrepreneurship for grassroots communities around the archipelago. For the latter, he was instrumental in designing the GREEN Initiative—a program that provided alternative livelihood sources through social enterprises in communities around the country that were vulnerable to the lure of unsustainable extractive industries. On top of his involvement with such personalities, Prof. de Jesus has also been involved as a consultant/adviser for entrepreneurship programs that ran in PBSP, FSSI, NATCO, CCT, Tulay sa Kaunlaran, Inc., etc. and in government agencies including the Department of Trade and Industry and several LGUs.
Prof. de Jesus received his Master in Entrepreneurship degree from the Asian Institute of Management and his AB in Political Science from ADMU. He currently teaches in Bayan Knowledge Institute’s conduit learning partners—primarily in Ateneo Graduate School of Business and MLQA—and also, to this day, continues to
design and teach programs for social enterprises in grassroots communities where the arduous challenge of democratizing high-faluting frameworks and concepts including the SDGs, ESG, Impact Investing, SSEs and advances in innovative entrepreneurship continue to linger.
